• Dara:  I can’t understand this swinging thing.  It seems just so weird to me.  Why would anyone want to have an open marriage?  Just fix your current one!
• Me:  Um, I think there’s a difference between swinging and open marriage.

[everyone stares at me]

• Me:  I mean, isn’t swinging where you go out as a pair together…
• Pauline: …yeah, and switch partners…
• Me:  …and an open marriage is like, well, one person at a time goes out as they wish to see other people.
• Pauline:  [nods]
• Me:  Clearly, we’re talking synchronous vs. asynchronous.
